This recipe is adapted from the original recipe in the cookbook Bless This Food.
Ingredients:
1 c. margarine or butter
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
3 c. oatmeal
2 t. vanilla
Filling:
12 oz chocolate chips ( I used 200 g. dark chocolate)
1 (15 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
2 T. butter or margarine
1 c. chopped walnuts
2 t. vanilla
Method:
- Preheat oven to 350 F / 175 C.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in eggs and vanilla
- Add dry ingredients and stir until well blended.
- Press 2/3 of this mixture into 9x13 in. pan.
- Prepare filling by melting together the chocolate with the sweetened milk and butter.
- Add remaining ingredients to filling and mix well.
- Pour this chocolate sauce over oatmeal mixture in pan.
- Dot with remaining oatmeal mixture.
- Bake at 350 degrees F or apx. 175 degrees C until golden brown
- Makes about 40 bars.
